The Crown Oil community roundup 2023!

It’s been a great year for Crown Oil in 2023 and, as our business has grown, we’ve continued to play an active role in the community. This has taken the form of donating our own time, and by supporting initiatives that help improve our local environment and provide essential assistance to the vulnerable.

We’ve donated over £18,000 to charities and community projects across our region in 2023!

Read on to take a look at some of our community work and support over the past year.

£200 for the Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary

The team at Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary look after over 300 animals in the North West of England across a 55-acre site, and community contributions are vital to their sustainability!

We raised over £200 for the sanctuary and used the money to purchase much-needed food and toys for the animals that they care for including dogs, cats, horses and many others.

We scaled England’s highest peak in support of BOSP!

Volunteers from across the Crown Oil Group climbed Scafell Pike (England’s highest peak) to raise money for Brighter Opportunities for Special People. We’re incredibly proud of our volunteers who managed to raise £1,230 for the charity.

BOSP support children with disabilities and life-limiting illnesses and they were incredibly grateful for our contribution.

Defibrillators for the Hollins & Unsworth Community Heartbeat Trust!

We donated £1,300 to the Hollins & Unsworth Community Heartbeat Trust to help them secure community-accessible defibrillators. Based at Blackford house, the defibrillator is available to the public 24 hours a day in the event of an emergency.

From Wembley to Spotland for Springhill Hospice!

David Smith and Gary Reeves embarked on an epic journey from Wembley to Spotland to raise money for Springhill Hospice. They wanted to make the journey using as many forms of transport as possible – for the last leg of the journey we gave the pair a lift to Rochdale AFC’s Crown Oil Arena in a pair of our HVO tankers. Together the pair raised an astonishing £1,100 for Springhill Hospice!

Proudly cleaning the streets of Rochdale!

Each year we offer our team members a ‘Give Back Day’ that allows staff to volunteer their time to our local community with full pay. For our first give back day of 2023, our team litter picked with Rochdale Council to help make a cleaner and safer environment for the local residents and wildlife.

We volunteered at the Age UK Jubilee Centre in Bury!

In addition to volunteering with Rochdale Council, for our second give back day of the year we visited the Age UK Jubilee Centre in Bury to engage with the elderly and help the centre’s volunteers look after each of the residents. We hope our efforts made a meaningful difference to the residents that benefit from the services.

We sponsored the Bury Santaceptor!

The Santaceptor is a festive initiative with one goal: to spread Christmas cheer and goodwill throughout the Bury region. The initiative is funded by donations and sponsorships such as ours, and we were happy to welcome P.C. Claus into our fuel depot in Bury.

The Crown Oil Christmas appeal for Home-Start!

Home-Start have been supporting struggling families across the Pennines for nearly 25 years. For our Crown Oil Christmas appeal, we approached Home-Start for ideas that we could use to help their families over Christmas. They gave us a fantastic idea to donate pyjamas to keep the children warm over Christmas. During our conversations they shockingly revealed that some of the children had never tried chocolate as a result of each family’s struggles. In response we asked each member of staff to donate a pyjama set and chocolate selection box to an assigned child and as you’d expect, the good nature of the Crown team shone through as they leaped at the idea.

We donated over 200 pyjama sets and selection boxes to Home-Start – enough for all of the children they asked us to support – to ensure that no child goes without. Home-Start were absolutely thrilled with our contributions and we hope that the donations make a meaningful difference to the lives of their families this Christmas.

We’ve also helped fund events in our area

In addition to our charity work and volunteering, we’ve also helped to fund a number of events in our area including:

– The Met’s Burrs Live Festival – we also supplied the event with HVO fuel
– Glaston-Bury – A fundraising event for Bury Hospice
– A charity boxing match in support of Restart the Heart

We’d like to thank all the charities and organisations in our area that make it such a warming place to operate as well as our team members that have supported our community work throughout the year.

We look forward to continuing our efforts in 2024 and beyond!
